Possibility to define creation date

Post by powerquest »

I am missing the possibility to define the creation date for PDF files. Another nice option could be, if the PDF file would be created with the same date (save date) as the source file. (Word, Excel, etc)

The creation date is the date the file was created - this is standard behaviour in any application and is based on the actual date set as current in your PC - there is no call or desire on our part to allow you to 'manipulate' this is a manner which is not reflective of the real date.

If you wish to 'massage' this then you can already do this by changing the PC date - but we will not provide a mechanism for doing so.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

It is not about manipulate the date of the file. This date changes anyway when you copy the file, it is rather about the parameter "/CreationDate" in the PDF file.
For instance, PDF Creator provides this capability. (See http://blog.surf7.net/wp-content/upload ... tor-02.gif)

I find this very helpful when you have e.g. a Word document which was released in the past and you need to generate a PDF version of that without changing the content of the word file. It could be misleading if in the document is shown the release date XX.XX.XX and in the PDF document properties the date YY.YY.YY.

The same when you are searching for some files and find the .doc and .pdf version of the document, if both have the same date you can associate those to each other better than if you must open both and compare the release date.

At least the option, that the PDF file is created with the date of the original file (Word document) should be considered again from your side.

Thanks.
