How to utilise Time Stamp server functionality in PDF-XChang
I am unable to apply Time Stamps from a Time Stamp Authority [after entering all the details such as server URL and Username/Password] while creating PDFs from PDF-XChange.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: How to utilise Time Stamp server functionality in PDF-XC
Hello Jerome,
I believe I just replied to the e-mail you sent to us in support@pdf-xchange.com
As I advised there - if possible please do provide us with a sample signed document, the TimeStamp server address, and a test account we could use to try it's working correctly.
If a test account is not available - you can send us (via e-mail as the forums are public) your own username and password for the TS server, and we will use those for testing and then delete the information from our mail server.
Best,
Stefan

Re: How to utilise Time Stamp server functionality in PDF-XC
Thanks for your reply. And yes your document was timestamped by "Universign Timestamping Unit 004".
My operating system is Windows XP SP3 (with all the latest patches and security updates) and i am using the latest version of Firefox. I don't know why i am unable to timestamp.
Can you please enumerate the steps/settings applied that you took to timestamp the document by Universign Timestamping Unit 004?
Additionally can you please upload a sample timestamped PDF document printed out of a webpage using the PDFX-Change printer function?
Thanks.

Hello Jerome,
Attached is a printout of this topic correctly timestamped by our drivers, and I have asked ivan to comment on whether your OS has any effect on your results.
Best,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Yes, i see your document has been timestamped. However i am unable to timestamp. I am using the following settings in PDF-XChange Version 4.0 Build 199. (Security - Digital Signing - Use Time Stamp Server)
Name: Universign Timestamping Unit 004
URL: https://ws.universign.eu/tsa/
Account name: email id
Password: the same password as for logging in to Universign
I have also installed the Universign certificates as trusted certificates.
Kindly let me know if your settings (for timestamping) are any different from mine?
Thanks,
Jerome

Hello Jerome,
You need to also specify digital signature settings, and select the digital signature to be used - the timestamp will be in addition to the signature. In my first attempt (not attached) I didn't specify a signature - and got an unsigned and also unstamped file
Best,
Stefan

Re: How to utilise Time Stamp server functionality in PDF-XC
Hello Stefan,
In addition to TimeStamp server settings, i had also applied my Digital Signature settings. The PDF that is generated is digitally signed but not timestamped. The time shown in the PDF is from the internal clock of the computer.
Did you apply the same timestamp server settings as i had previously mentioned? Which all different sub-parts (e.g Viewer/Printer etc) did you apply these settings?
Thanks,
Jerome

Re: How to utilise Time Stamp server functionality in PDF-XC
Hello Jerome,
All I did was -
1) open this forum topic in my browser
2) Start the print process and select our printing driver
3) Go to the driver's preferences and then to Security
4) check to "Digitally sign document" and "Use Time Stamp Server"
5) Click the "Settings..." button, and select the signature to be used
6) Set up the timestamp server with the username and PW as per your instructions above (with my own registration of course)
Then click OK on everything and print the document.
(an image of the steps is attached)
Best,
Stefan

Re: How to utilise Time Stamp server functionality in PDF-XC
Hi,
I would like to post an update. Although i am still unable to utilize TSA settings of Universign, i have found a few other free TSA server URLs with which i was able to apply timestamps.
For the benefit of other forum members i am enumerating these as follows (these are for testing/validating purposes only, not for commercial use). These do not require username or password.
1. Name: Soft Perfect
URL: https://ca.signfiles.com/TSAServer.aspx
OR
URL: http://ca.signfiles.com/TSAServer.aspx
2. Name: KryptokoderTSA
URL: http://tsp.iaik.at/tsp/TspRequest
3. Name: cartaodecidadao
URL: http://ts.cartaodecidadao.pt/tsa/server
4. Name: Aloaha
URL: https://tsa.aloaha.com
5. Name: StarfieldTech
URL: http://tsa.starfieldtech.com
I am not sure about the legal validity of the above Time Stamp Servers. Commercial, legally valid Time Stamp Severs are available elsewhere.
If you are using the above TSA, do not import their certificates (including Root certificates) for verification unless you are very sure about their integrity and trustworthiness.
One needs to view the newly created timestamped PDF documents in Adobe Reader, because PDF X-Change Viewer only mentions about the time the document was signed and does not further elaborate whether it is from the signer's own computer or TSA.
Happy experimenting with this functionality.
Thank you.
