I have found that if a PDF file has an extreme number of bookmarks it will cause the editor to crash when running in WINE. It will do this when scrolling back & forth through the bookmarks but the way to get it to crash every time is to click on the "Expand All Bookmarks" button in the bookmarks pane. If started from a terminal window WINE will give the following error:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000000 at address 0x7dcfcd48 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7b8392fd
I've also gotten the following error in the terminal when it crashes:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x07280000 at address 0x1002531e (thread 0009), starting debugger...
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x110060 "heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 0024, retrying (60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x110060 "heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0027, blocked by 0024, retrying (60 sec)
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000194 flags 0 addr 0x7bc3a7ea
The PDF file that will cause it to crash is too large to attach but can be downloaded from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzmu33 ... sp=sharing.
Also, when scrolling back & forth through the bookmarks, particularly when using a mousewheel, many visual artifacts will be left.
Running WINE version 1.7.23

Re: WINE issue: Crashes when too many bookmarks
Hi ds1,
Thanks for the post - I'm not seeing the same problem here. Could you advise on the build of the Editor you are using (Help --> About)?
Could you also tell me if the same thing happens in Adobe or any other PDF readers?
Cheers,

Re: WINE issue: Crashes when too many bookmarks
I'm use PDF Editor version 5.5.309.0 and WINE version 1.7.23. The bookmarks in the file cause no problems in other viewers available for Linux. And the Editor also doesn't have any problems with the file when running in a virtual machine.
In your testing, if you click on the button for expanding all the bookmarks for this file it will not crash under WINE?

Hi ds1,
you are using a development version of Wine which we do not support our software under. The stable build of wine today is 1.6.2 (https://www.winehq.org/announce/1.6.2)
If you have this issue under wine 1.6.2 we will investigate. Let us know what distro you are using and we'll take a look.

Re: WINE issue: Crashes when too many bookmarks
OK, I installed WINE version 1.6.2. I am using the Debian Jessie distribution. I am using the 32 bit version of WINE as I couldn't get the 64bit version of the Editor install program to run. The crash still occurs along with visual artifacts remaining when scrolling a long list of bookmarks using a mouse wheel.

Re: WINE issue: Crashes when too many bookmarks
thanks for that ds1.
The official position is that we only support Windows, but we will take a look at this. The downside is that it's going to take a little time to set up and test.
pop back in next week and we should have something for you.

Re: WINE issue: Crashes when too many bookmarks
Hi ds1,
I'm afraid not, our current priority and attention has been on readying the Editor SDK documentation and problems with the software under Wine are considered a low priority, as use of our software on any non-Windows operating system is not strictly supported. When it comes to Wine on Linux, we do what we can, where we and as we can.
I'll see if I can set aside time to test this within the next few days.
Cheers,
