PDF-XChange Lite V6

Post by Arnold »

I get this error message when I try to use the print driver in Windows XP. Tried re-installing but that did not fix it.

Hello Arnold,

As I am sure you are aware, we can support XP only in a limited capacity. Here is what another user did to fix this issue earlier this week:
When I went to print, I got a message that PXC5L could not start because ncrypt.dll was missing and suggested a reinstall. Both a reinstall over 321.0 and an uninstall/reinstall did not work.

A search revealed ncrypt.dll did not exist on my PC. However, this is my old PC, running XP SP3.

I went to a Windows 10 PC I "inherited" from my son - ncrypt.dll exists there in C:\Windows\System32. Installation of PDFXLiteHome6 322.3 succeeded there. From googling about ncrypt.dll, printing apps may use it.

I decided to copy the dll from the Windows 10 PC; since that PC was up to date and had been scanned recently I figured it was a safe source for the dll. Copying the dll to C:\Windows\System32 on the XP box and then attempting an update of the printer to 322.3 was successful.
For your convenience, I have attached the DLL below from my own win-10 PC.

I hope this helps!

Excellent. Thank you. I really do need to switch over to the Windows 7 laptop. It is a much nicer faster 17" machine, and it is just sitting here. I just have to "bite the bullet" and do it.

Patrick that did not work for me. I got some other error message after I tried it. I used the separate exe file from the downloads page to install the printer driver with. I presume that is the same software that gets installed with the Editor Plus. No big deal, as I rarely if ever use that printer driver.

I upgraded one of my licenses to PDF Tools over the weekend, and thought about upgrading to PDF-XChange Pro. Now that would have been disappointing, as I imagine I would have the same problem with the Standard printer.

Thanks.

Maybe it should be obvious, but nevertheless this question:
Did you try the installation of PDF-XChange Editor Plus (incl. PDF-XChange V6 Lite printer) with the 32-bit version?

To me, it seems like the ncrypt.dll in question is 32-bits.

Best regards;

I believe ncrypt.dll is not installed with the Editor or the printer driver which is why Patrick sent it to me. It is a Windows file that gets installed into the System32 directory. I believe the files contained in that directory are 32 bit files, and there is a separate directory for the 64 bit files called SysWOW64. The only place this happened is with a 32 bit XP machine, and everything I installed is 32 bit.
