Do you want to close all opened documents?

Post by dasy2k1 »

every time i click on a PDF link within the PDF xchange editor plugin to IE/Firefox i am getting the following dialog box

Do you want to close all opened documents?
yes and dont ask again
yes
no

this generally causes the plugin to crash before you can click anything anyway,

this has only happened since our IT support rolled out a new build this week.
we are now on build 6.0 - 321.0

how do i stop this from appearing every time i click a link?
I dont want to close anything, i just want to follow the link to a different PDF

Hi dasy2k1,

Thanks for the post - The only way to stop this is by clicking the Yes and don't ask me in the future option, but if it's crashing then I can only recommend that you download and install the latest release:

Thanks,

Thank you.

Hi,

I am using the latest version and also experiencing the same issue on Firefox 52 ESR.

It would make sense to add an option for "No, and don't ask me in the future"

Hello Cerion,

I will need to double check with my colleagues in the dev team - but I believe this particular issue has already been addressed - and a fix should be available in the next build of our products.

I am having a similar problem since updating to the latest release, 6.0.322.4.
I am using PaleMoon (a Firefox relative that supports NPAPI plugins), with PDF files displayed inside the browser.
The problem for me appears some times when I try to close a browser tab that has a pdf document (or change to a new url). The Close / Close All / Cancel dialog appears and is unresponsive, i.e.you cannot click on either option or close the dialog window. After a while, the browser displays a dialog saying the plugin is unresponsive, and accepting that closes the plugin i.e. the view of the pdf.

This did not happen with former versions of PDF XChange Editor inside the web browser. That dialog has always been there when closing documents in the standalone application, and always works. I do not think it should ever pop up in the in-browser Editor plugin.

Hello Angel,

Can you please try build 322.5 which we released last night?
It includes some fixes - and if I am not mistaken this should be one of them!

Cheers,
Stefan

Yes, the problem seems to be gone in 322.5
But since I was not sure of the precise situation when it happened, I cannot be 100% sure. I will keep an eye on this and report here if it reappears.
Thanks for the fix

I'm facing the exact same problem with PDF-XChange Editor 7 (build 323.1 / Dec 13 2017).

If I close a browser tab with an unmodified PDF file there's no problem.

However when a PDF file has some annotation or modification the unresponsive save dialog appears and hang the plugin.

Is there a fix or hidden configuration setting for the problem?

I understand that maybe NPAPI support is not a priority but a lot of users still use the browser plugin.

Thanks.

It's working now with version 7.0.323.3, release 20-12-2017.

The change log refers the fix:

"Fixed the Firefox Plugin issue where closing the browser-tab with modified PDF document inside was freezing the browser in some cases."

Thank you very much.
