How print lossless into new pdf?
Hi there,
I have to embed fonts for printing a book. Unfortunately the source-file is deleted. I only have a pdf-file without embedded fonts.
How can I embed them without any loss?
I tried out PDF-XChange Lite V6 to print it to file. But the result seems to be rather unsharp, less clear than the original.
Is there a way to get it lossless?
thank you in advance for your answer!
kind regards,
Rainer

Re: How print lossless into new pdf?
Sorry to interfere, but an other way around could be to deliver the required fonts as separate files (*.TTF / *.OTF) to the printing company or office. In that case, you can best use the PDF without embedded fonts for a 100% perfect result.
Take care, passing along fonts is not always allowed, because of licensing reasons.
Best regards.

Thank you Will!
I hope that had helped. On my screen it seems to have a better result. Although the file-size is decreased to about a half of the original.

Re: How print lossless into new pdf?
To verify if fonts are "embedded" (= included), you should open the resulting PDF in PDF-XChange Editor and look via File > Document Properties > Fonts. The different fonts, used in your document, should be listed and have "(Embedded)" besides their names.
The only way myself I did succeed to embed the needed fonts, was to save the PDF via File > Save As... into the "PDF/A Document (*.pdf)" format, via the "Save As Type" option, and via the "Option" button, uncheck "Embed Font Subset".
Can you please try this, and give us some feedback ?
N.B.: More information about the PDF Archiving format is available here:

Thanks for the advise Willy!
Dan - Willy's correct in that fonts should be embedded to produce the best quality prints. Regarding your query on file size, I suspect that this decreased because the document was previously being printed using cruves rather than actual text. Curves are normally large than text and also don't compress as well.
Thanks,

Make sure that your original PDF file does not use Type1 fonts, though, because these are not supported by X-Change printers yet.

Hi Timur,
As far as I'm aware, we do support Type1 fonts, we just need to improve the way that we handle them.
Thanks,
