Preview display when hovering the mouse cursor over a file attachment icon

Hello all,

Currently, if you want to add a small note containing an image or a figure to a page with little or no margins in PDF-XChange Editor, there are approximately four possible ways to do so.

• Add a new page and put a note on the new page.
• Increase the page size and put a note in the extra blank space.
• Write a note in a new file and embed it as a file attachment comment.
• Write a note in a new file and point to it with a bookmark or link.

None of these ways are suitable for the need to add notes containing figures to pages with small margins, but I think that if a preview could be displayed when hovering over a file attachment icon, it would greatly expand the range of document expression in PDF.

If a pop-up note is set in the comments of an attachment, a preview of the pop-up note will appear when hovering the mouse over the attachment's icon, as shown on the left side of the concept video below.

Similarly, it would be appreciated if a preview of the first page of the attachment or the page specified in the document properties would be displayed when the mouse hovers over the attachment's icon, as shown on the right side of the video. If the display of the preview is limited to only when no pop-up notes are set, it should not conflict with other features that currently exist.

In the video, the mouse hovers over the file attachment icon twice, and immediately after the second hover, the icon is double-clicked to open the attachment.

If the size of the preview could also be set in the preferences dialog (Examples: automatic, small, medium, large), it would be possible to view a preview of a simple diagram without opening the attachment.

while we agree that it makes sense, it is not trivial to implement, especially if/when the target document is not a PDF. The devs agreed to try and do something, it is considered low priority and "long term" but it is formally in the system: RT#6835: Feature Request :: Editor :: Preview display when hovering the mouse cursor over a file attachment icon

Thank you, Paul, for creating the ticket!

Personally, I would be fine with the feature being limited to PDF attachments. This will also help maintain the overwhelmingly lightweight feel in operation that gives PDF-XChange Editor an advantage over other software.
I am always amazed at the combination of high functionality and lightweight operability.
