Save session and application "Exit" with multiple windows

Hi forum and tracker support team,

it seems that the save session setting:
Image
...does not save the entire session in case the feature "Window -> New Document Window" is used, and the new document window subsequently has been detached by dragging it's tab away from the initial PDF-XChange Editor window.

In this case, also the Exit command (Ctrl+Q) from the File menu does not exit the application but instead only closes the active window.

The same happens if multiple windows (not: tabs) of different PDF documents are open. Also in this case, the Exit command (Ctrl+Q) does not close the application, and the multiple windows are not saved as a session.

Therefore it would be great if the save session setting could be improved such that the "Exit" command actually closes the application completely, and such that the entire session including multiple windows is saved.

Thank you for considering,

David.P

Hi David,

Thank you for this report. I agree with you that this could be improved. I will bring it up in our next meeting.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I just was going to use the "Save Session to File" feature for the first time.

I had been preparing for a telephone call, for which I had three different windows of the same PDF document distributed on my three monitors; with different pages of the PDF shown in each window, in order to discuss those pages with the person I was going to call.

Then, as usual, when you prepare for a telephone call, the person you are calling is not available.

So I (happily) saved the session for later, when I was going to try and call that person again, in order to work on other cases/PDF documents in the meantime.

However, after opening the saved session file later on, while the three windows where restored correctly, they would all show page 1 of the PDF document, instead of the pages that were displayed when I had saved the session.

Therefore my question is, am I missing some trick or setting -- or is it currently not possible to save the last shown PDF page(s) when saving a session?

(…in which case I would strongly recommend to add the saving of the current page/view to the session management feature :)

Best regards
David.P

+1 from me. I need this for my multiple windows workaround (to get one search pane per document).

Hello David, Timur,

I will bring this up to the attention of the devs working on the sessions and check with them if it is working as it should, and if not - take the necessary steps to get this corrected.

Regards,
Stefan

Hi David and Timur.

We fixed one minor bug that causes this effect on the session restore.
The fix will be available in new upcoming build(325).

Cheers.

Is the "Save Session to file" feature only in Editor? It would be nice if it was in Viewer, too. I have viewer set to "Restore Last Session when started" and right now I have 13 different PDFs opening for a project I'm working on. But it is kind of a pain to have all of those open when I have to open a new PDF for some other reason not related to that project.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Yes this is an Editor only feature.
The Viewer is the older product, and has not received any new features for several years now, and will not get any new ones in the future.
So we strongly recommend that you consider switching from the Viewer to the Editor!

Regards,
Stefan

Is there a free version of Editor? Or another free product that has this feature?
Thanks
