Shortcuts and Other Improvements

Post by Bhikkhu Pesala »

1.“Cross Cut Text” should be renamed as “Strikeout Text” everywhere. The shortcut to apply text formatting is Control S for “Strikeout.”
2.Adobe Reader Shortcuts should be added wherever they are missing: Control Q = Exit; Control Shift A = Deselect All; Alt Shift Left = Previous Document; Alt Shift Right = Next Document; F4 = Show Pages and Thumbnails.
3.When the panes are open and have focus, the shortcuts no longer work. [BUG]
4.Cascade, Tile Horizontally, and Tile Vertically are not yet implemented. The Adobe shortcuts for those functions are Control Shift J, K, L respectively, so these shortcuts should be reserved.
5.F6 and Shift F6 currently show next and previous documents. So do Control Tab and Control Shift Tab, and these latter shortcuts work in Adobe Reader too. F6 and Shift F6 should therefore be reassigned as they do not work in Adobe Reader. If you also add Alt Shift Left/Right (used in Adobe Reader for previous/next document), then using F6 too is overkill.
6.The use of “Comments and Markup” for Adobe’s “Comments” is a bit confusing. The shortcut is Control M, so using just “Markup” instead might be better, or just “Comments.” F4 could perhaps be used for the shortcut or Control Shift C.
7.Playing the Error Sound when a recent document is not found is unnecessary and alarming. An information dialogue rather than a warning dialogue is enough. It would be great if the filename could be removed from the Recent Documents list when it is not found. Adobe Reader 7 does not do this.
8.The Toggle handle on the panes is hard to hit with the mouse pointer. Improve on Adobe Reader by making this toggle strip work on its full height. Improve it further by not moving it to the right of the pane when expanding the pane. Keep it always on the very edge of the screen for optimal ergonomics. Show/hide on mouse-over (Autohide) is also possible.
9. Single letter shortcuts T,H,S,U for Typewriter, Highlight, Strikeout, and Underline would be good. The keys still work OK while typing markup text, but not when typing in the Find dialog. If that cannot be avoided, Control Shift + T, H, S, U might be better.

Thanks for organizing requests. Some new items added into the our request list and will be realized into futures builds.

While looking again at these shortcuts, I noticed one thing that should probably be changed to match Adobe Reader:

Control + 0 = Fit Page
Control + 1 = Actual Size

PDF-XChange is the opposite
Control + 0 = Actual Size
Control + 1 = Fit Page

No need for PDF-XChange to have identical shortcuts in every case, as it has some features that Adobe Reader lacks, and lacks some features that Adobe Reader has, but I think in this case it should behave exactly the same as Control 1 is more logical for 100% zoom.

Another case to consider is F12 = Fullscreen, where Adobe has Control L. Here, I would suggest switching F11 and F12, as Internet Explorer and other browsers use F11 for Fullscreen mode.

The attachment shows the shortcuts that I am currently testing.
