Creating a highlight summary
Hello everyone,
is there a possibility to show all highlights in a larger PDF document e.g. in a side bar? I would like to create a higlight summary. I think Citavi and Mendeley are able to do this. Of course, it would be, additionally, great to have a source citation (with page citation if necessary) and a timestamp (like in OneNote, Diigo) under each highlight and sort by source or date and then transfer these highlights to other programs (Google Docs, Notion, ...).
Greetings

Hello 3dupe,
You can open the Comments Pane (Ctrl + M), order your annotations by type - and then you can see all your highlights listed there.
Alternatively we also have the Summarize Comments feature: Which would allow you to create a separate file (with various options) for your comments/highlights.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Creating a highlight summary
Hi,
I have a follow up question on this topic. I use the search function (ctrl + shift + F) to find information that I need. When I have found it, I use the annotate search result to highlight the found text. But when I use the summarize comments function It only shows me that there is highlighted text, but I doesn't show what the highlighted texts says. So my question is if there is an option to make a summary, like the summarize comments function, of the highlighted text that also says what the highlighted part is?
Best regards,
Evie

Re: Creating a highlight summary
Hello Evie,
You would need to open the Editor's preferences windows (Ctrl + K) -> Commenting and then make sure to turn this option on: Then once you place new highlights - they would copy the text you are highlighting in them, and when you later make the summary - that text will also be included.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Creating a highlight summary
Hello Evie,
It would appear like when you "Highlight search results" - the text that is being highlighted is indeed not stored in the annotation as it is when you highlight words manually. I am asking our devs whether that is intentional - and if not - we will make a ticket to correct that.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Creating a highlight summary
Hello again Evie,
Our devs confirmed that this would need addressing - so I've created the ticket so that we can correctly follow up on this one:
#6847: Editor: Annotate Search Results does not add the highlighted text in the annotation created.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Creating a highlight summary
Hi Stefan,
Does that mean that this feature is going to be available in the future? If so, how long is that about to take?
Best regards,
Evie

Hello Evie,
Yes - it would be available in the future, however for now I do not yet have a time frame. As soon as it is ready - there will be an update in the ticket, and we will post an update here in this topic as well!
Kind regards,
Stefan
