To load any page in file ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/dokument/ct8312.pdf , xchange viewer 2.0 40.3 Beta needs over 10 seconds. Really slow!

Foxitreader 2.3 needs less than 1 second.

What's wrong here?

1,5 GB RAM
Radeon X700 Pro

andreasm, i think you should improve your Hardware  , if this is your current Hardware Configuration (Profile-Information from a German Forum):

Even if a user is using old hardware the file should not display ten times slower in PDF-XChange than it does in Foxit Reader.

For me it is about 1 second per page in Foxit Reader, about 2 seconds in Adobe Reader, but about 4 seconds per page in PDF-XChange. That's using the bookmarks to navigate to a page or just the page thumbnails. Loading of the page thumbnails is slow too in PDF-XChange.

Bhikkhu, please try to change Color Management engine to Microsoft ICM (by default it is LCMS), and test page opening time again.

No, there's no need for buying new hardware! :P
Example: Do you buy a new car, if it drives much slower than the car of your friend (he has the same car) ?!Perhaps, there's just a dead ignition plug which could cause big trouble.
My opinion is to get as much as possible from a hardware. Building a computer takes so much energy and destroys nature (for getting resources like gold and so on), so it's unaccountable to buy an new computer if the old one still works!

my hardware config:

AMD Duron 1000 MHz, 256MB + 512 MB SDRAM, Geforce 2 MX 400 graphic card, Windows XP Prof

Thanks for that hint!

Time for loading first page
with little cms : 11.5 seconds
with MS ICM : 5.5 seconds

Thats much better thank before, but foxitreader is still better ;)

With ICM Colour management, now just a little bit slower than Adobe Reader. Foxit Reader is still noticeably quicker.

I think it will be hard enough for us to make it more quicker - multithreaded rendering and caching require their payments. especially caching, because we should use hard drive for cache.

By the way, we have an idea to improve mutlithreded images decoding which isn't so easy for realization, and almost impossible with some kind of images.
