I have a problem with opening a document, I get an error message: Error [PDF Structure 40]: Unknown/unsupported security handler.

Knowledge Base Article: KB206 - Created On: Sep 21, 2009 12:32 PM - Last Modified: May 2, 2012 06:23 AM

Symptoms

When I try to open certain PDF files I get this message...

Error opening document "C:\Document...":
Error [PDF Structure 40]: Unknown/unsupported security handler.

Cause

It could be that the file you are trying to open has a custom security handler (File Open). There is a plugin for Adobe Acrobat which will allow it to handle such files, but the PDF-XChange Viewer cannot at present.

Resolution

We are planning to implement a plugins system in the viewer, and maybe will support some Acrobat plugins to address this, however we cannot say at this time when this will happen or if this particular issue will be addressed.
