How do I place freehand highlights

Problem

I have a tablet and a pen and I would like to use them to highlight portions of a document.

 

Resolution

You can use the pencil tool in the PDF-XChange Viewer, and with the correct settings it will allow you to use it pretty much as if you were holding a real marker in your hand.

So first make sure that the pencil tool is selected, and then change the colour to something that you would like, and then change the width to something that will match e.g. the height of the text that you are planning to mark, and leave the opacity at 100%:

Then change the blending mode to Multiply:

And you can start using the pencil tool as a free hand highlighter:
