Hi,
When you importing an image from a scanner (or from file), the PDF will have zipped RAW data and you cannot change its settings.

Of course if you also have a PDF-Tools SDK - you can control various settings - including the Compression/optimisation etc.

Re: Scan with viewer - Image format & compression
Hello,
Digging up this old thread, as I've come across a similar problem and this thread mentions that compression options will be available in the future (posted in 2009).
My company has the PDF-XChange Viewer control integrated into our software and some of our customers have reported very large file sizes when scanning color images at 300DPI. When compared against the scanned files that the scanner software itself produces, the ones produced by the PDF-XChange Viewer control are about 8 times larger in size.
When scanning to PDF, is it yet possible to specify compression or other optimizations?
Thanks for your time,
-John

Hi John,
thanks for the post. Are you using the Viewer SDK to call the scanner or PDF-Tools SDK functions?

Re: Scan with viewer - Image format & compression
OK - got it John,
the Viewer SDK does not have functions to compress the immages of the scans. You have 2 options:
1. Upgrade your SDK to the PDF-XChange Pro SDK that includes the PDF-Tools libraries that do have this compression
2. Wait for the Editor SDK which will also have compression available.
The Editor SDK is still some months away however if you can wait, and if your current SDK has maintenance that is valid then you will get the Editor SDK for free when it is ready. That also would be a great reason in my opinion to keep your maintenance on your ActiveX SDK up to date.
I hope that helps.

Re: Scan with viewer - Image format & compression
Hi there,
I'm revisiting this topic again, as my company is still looking to provide a solution to this problem as I have documented earlier. We were hoping to use the Editor SDK, but after a quick browse of your site, it doesn't appear to be available yet. Is that true, and if so, do you have an idea of when it might be available?
Thanks for your time,
-John

Re: Scan with viewer - Image format & compression
Hello support team,
i am using the "PDF-XChange Printer Pro 5" and the "Viewer PDF ActiveX" SDK. We want to use the "New Document From Image/Scanner" function. Its very easy to use this function in VB6 (yes, VB6!) but unfortunately there ist no support for image compression like in the "PDF Editor" we are also using. Are there any solutions (Editor SDK ActiveX) ? Coding this function in VB6 are a few lines. I dont like to spent lot of ours to use the Tools SDK or something else.
kind regards
Arnold

Re: Scan with viewer - Image format & compression
Nothing has changed in regards the status of this - the Viewer SDK is no longer in development and has been replaced by the Editor SDK,
You will either need to use our Core API SDK (the PDF-Tools replacement SDK) or the Editor SDK if you want to use scanning functionality/compression.
Please download and test once of the above evaluations to establish if this will meet your needs.
Thanks

OK. No problem. We wil keep our current scanning/image-import solution without PDF-XChange API/Viewer.
