Access a PDF file via a hyperlink

Hello,
I would like to access a PDF file via a hyperlink, e.g. file://\\test.local\test\test.pdf, in Excel in the internal network.
Until the file opens, it takes very long.
What could be the reason for this?
Does the program attempt to access the file via HTTP?

Thanks for the post - Can you give a rough estimate of how long it takes? Also, if you were to use that same link in e.g. Adobe Reader, is it quicker or roughly the same?

thank you for the fast answer.

When I try to open the hyperlink via Adobe Reader, it only takes a few seconds.
With the PDF-XChange it takes about 1 minute with the first opening.
If I call the same file again, then it takes just as long as with Adobe Reader.

Thanks for the info. - Please try disabling the SharePoint plugin under Edit --> Preferences --> Plugins and see if that helps.

I had the same issue as you when I tried to open PDF files via hyperlinks in Excel. It took sometimes a few minutes before a PDF file was opened. My PDF files are located in net work drives as in your case. I found out that the problem occurs only with the portable version of XChange Editor. WIth the regular installed Xchange Editor the PDF files are opened via hyperlinks at the same speed as within Windows Explorer.

We have found and are fixing the problem that causes this slow down - and the fix will be available in the next build of our products.
