How to Stop IE11 from opening .pdf in browser

Post by KenMcC »

I have just did a MS required update [Fall Creators Update] to Windows 10 64 bit and now my IE11 want to open most .pdf files in its browser rather than PDF-Xchange Editor. Anybody know how to change this behavior of IE11 (32bit) ? I have been searching for 2 days (No Joy) Seems all suggested control button are not available and any that are use Adobe Reader.

Hello KenMcC,

Is there a built in PDF viewer inside IE11? I know there is one inside Edge - and there is a known issue with Edge stealing the file associations:

IE will normally either open a PDF file in your default PDF application, or ask you to e.g. save the file, or use a built in Plug-in if one is available.
Is it that you get the files opened in the stand alone Editor and want them to display inside IE directly?
Then please see if this will help:
