3D-Models in PDFs

Post by zylex »

Hi Tracker-Software,

if you open a PDF including a 3D-Model in Acrobat Reader DC you can view/rotate the 3D Model and even select/view the different parts from the 3D-Model. If you open this PDF in PDF-XChange-Editor only a simple 2D page is visible.

Are there any plug-ins or plans from Tracker-Software to implement a 3D-Model view in PDF-XChange-Editor?

Best regards

Hello zylex,

Thanks for your e-mail and enquiry, but for the moment we do not know if or when 3D content support might be added in our products.
You can read a bit more here:

Hi Stefan,

thanks for the link. But I think there will be a strong demand for 3D in PDFs in the near future. A lot construction companies for example will work in 3D as BIM (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building_ ... n_modeling) is spreading across the building sector (even in small companies).

PDF-XChange-Editor is one of the best PDF products, but without 3D support in PDFs it could loose a lot customers to other software products supporting 3D-Models in PDFs.

Thanks for the follow up zylex,

I do appreciate that it is getting momentum in Contruction oriented PDFs, but this is still quite a specialized usage, and with the lack of public documentation as for the rest of the ISO standard, it is just not practical for us to dedicate the resources this feature requires.

If things do change in the future - we are always open to reconsider!

Regards,
Stefan
