PdfSaver4.exe problem

Recently we received a new key for a country license for PDF-XChange 4.0.
We are planning to start the roll-out of Windows 7 and Office 2010 in the near future.

For a first test, we have installed version 4.0 build 210 on a Windows 7-64bit pc in combination with Word 2010-32bit.
Now we have the problem that the PDF-XChange 4 Office-add-in just works once for creating a PDF. The second time we click on the "Convert to PDF" icon, the tiny dialogboxes concerning "Printing" appear for a tenth of a second and nothing more happens. No new PDF is being created. This seems to be a problem with the PdfSaver4.exe file. Normally it should stay actif in the Windows 7 processes, but it does not. It appears that this problem is NOT there in build 198, and in build 200 there is the phenomenon that the Save As dialogbox does not get the focus; one must click the Save As button in the Taskbar to make it appear.
I did a test with build 211, but still the same problem as with build 210.

Are you aware of these kind of problems ?

I do not find an immediate indication in the forums, nor in the Knowledge Base.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi Willy

I have tested in Win 7 x64 Office 2010 now and see the same. We will see what we can find out and get back to you.

We have the same problem with the newest build of the version 4. The dialog box appears for a split second. Then, it happens nothing. The only possibility to convert the office document consists in clicking on the checkbox for saving the pdf in the same folder as the office document (in German: Einstellungen -> Erweitert -> PDF-Dokument in Verzeichnis des Office-Dokuments speichern)

Michael

Hi Michael,

can you tell me if you are using 64 or 32 bit Office and it this in a 64 or 32 bit Win 7?

I have created a ticket for the devs to investigate this: RT#1912: PdfSaver4.exe problem (internal only). I was using 64 bit win 7 and 32 bit Office 2010. I'm keen to know if your set up is the same.

regards

Thank Maus07 for the information.
Checking "Save Document to Original Document Folder" (via the PDF-XChange 4-tab in Word 2010 > Settings > tab Advanced) leads indeed to the creation of a PDF.
Although you can not set a name for the file (it is always Documepdf.pdf on my pc).
Let's hope that Tracker Software can soon work out a solution for this.
In the meantime we can return to PDF-XChange 4.0 (build 198).

@ Paul
Wasn't the ticket not yet created 14 days ago. If not that's a pitty...

Additional information:
Windows 7 Home Premium-32bit with MS Office 2010-32bit = same problem with PDF-XChange 4.0 (build 211).

Regards.

Hi Willy,

stick with 198 for now - the fix will hopefully be in 212.

Sorry, I forgot the notions about our system. We use Win 7 32 bit, Office 2010 32 bit

Best wishes

About two months later...
Still no news about ticket RT#1912: PdfSaver4.exe problem ?
We were still hoping this would be fixed soon... (as usual by Tracker Software), but not this time ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Willy,

I'm afraid that Paul is on holiday for two weeks, so he's not able to weigh in on this. I've taken a look at the ticket and haven't seen any updates, so I'm going to talk to the Dev. Team and see if they have any further information on the subject - I'll post back when I know more.

Cheers,
Will

The issue is fixed now. Fix will be available in the next build.

P.S. This issue does not exist in V5 of the driver and I would recommend to use this version. Migration from V4 to V5 is very simple and easy.

Thanks for the answer Ivan.
So, I assume the next build will be PDF-Xchange 4.0 Pro build 212 ? Available soon ?

Migration from V4 to V5 is probably simple and easy, but it is not for free.
Our upgrade to V5 is only on the budget for next year.
That was the main reason for demanding a fix in V4.

Hello Willy,

Yes the fix will be in build 212, and as for the migration - if you have valid maintenance the upgrade is free - otherwise it is with a heavy discount :)

Stefan

I saw that build 212 of PDF-XChange 4.0 was available since 28 august,
downloaded it and tried it out.

My problem seems to be resolved.
The PDF-XChange 4.0 Office add-in (Convert to PDF) is now correctly working in Office 2010.
(Tested with Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
The Save As dialogbox stays on screen untill Save or Cancel is being clicked.
I have tried this repeatedly, and it keeps working.

So, many thanks for having this resolved.
My patience has been rewarded.

Sorry guys, it seems like I have been a little bit too optimistic...

I don't know why, but my PDF-XChange 4.0 - Office add-in has fallen again into its bad behaviour.
When clicking "Convert to PDF" in Word 2010 or Excel 2010, the Save As dialogbox appears shortly and disappears again, without doing any more.
I must say, in PowerPoint 2010, it still works correctly. I don't know for sure if it was working correctly in build 210 or 211.

I already did a complete uninstall of PDF-XChange 4.0 + restart of the pc, reinstallation + restart of the pc,
but unfortunately it does not help.

I wonder why it has worked for a while, and now again it does anymore...
(for your info : Pdfsaver4.exe now keeps running in the processes, in formal builds that was not the case)

At the occasion, could you please be so kind to check at your side if you have the same phenomenon with PDF-XChange 4.0 - build 212 Office add-in when used on a Windows 7-32 bit, with MS Office 2010 ?

Hi Willy,

I've passed your latest comment to Ivan who worked on the fix, and he will review that as soon as possible and we will post back any comments or advise we might have!

Stefan

Hello to Tracker support,

I have seen that since a few days PDF-XChange 4.0 build 213 (still mentioned as 212 at the download site) is available (25 Oct. 2013). However, without announcement and no follow-up for this thread.
It made me curious to see if our problem finally should be resolved... but unfortunately it is not (yet) :( .

Even though, a while ago, I did find out that there is a (temporary) simple solution (as I explained in thread 17998) and it does not seem to have (negative) consequences on the working of other software:
In Windows 7 registry : change the value of ForegroundLockTimeOut in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop from its default value (decimal 200 000) into the new value 0 (zero).
After that : restart the pc.

However this is not a solution in the way it should be.

May we still hope that someone at Tracker Software takes the time to find out what is the main difference from build 198 towards the later ones, in the way that the PDF-XChange 4.0 Office-addins for Word 2010 and Excel 2010 worked correctly at that moment and now they do not anymore (in Windows 7)?

Willy - PDF-XChange 4 is now several years out of date and respectfully - any correction to this problem would be made in Version 5 not 4 if necessary - you really do need to be using V5 - not 4 if you are expecting resolutions to issues.

thanks

Thanks for the answer John.
Now it is clear to me that Tracker Software will not do anything more to resolve our problem with PDF-XChange 4.0.
So, we will continue with build 198 for now.
