protected PDFs cannot open on iOS 10

When I send a mail with PDF attachment which is password-protected, and I like to open this on iPhone
in ios9, it will appear a password fill in dialog, but in ios10, it just show blank without any popup dialog.

But for unprotected pdf, everything is OK,

Of course the protected PDF is OK to open on any other mac or pc. With iOS 9 I can open the pdf with iOS 10 not.

When I use the command line tool cpdf to protect a pdf,

cpdf -encrypt AES Pass1 Pass2 -no-edit -no-copy in.pdf -o out.pdf

This works fine with iOS 10.

PDF X-Change v6 standard 318.1

Hi ADeeg,

Thanks for the post. Creating a secured PDF with the latest driver, then opening it on my iPhone running iOS 10.0.1 prompts for a password as desired:

This was opened through the Mail App on iOS. Please send us a secured PDF with which you are seeing this issue so that we can investigate further. Please also specify the app you are trying to use to open the pdf.

Please also send us a secured PDF with which you are not seeing this issue.

Cheers!

Hi ADeeg,

Here are the settings I used for the first test:

And for the second test:

With both versions of the file, I was even able to open them in iBooks.

If you could send us the files I requested in my previous reply, I would be more than happy to take a look and see what might be causing this.

Hi Patrick,

thanks for your reply. I've extended my test.
I create the pdfs with current version pdf v6 standard 318.1, then send it to my iphone and open the pdf from the apple iphone mail app. iOS ist the latest 10.0.2 version.

Attached to the message is a zip file with 11 pdf files.
With acrobat pdf version v3 - v5 it works, with the other files not.

works:
v3_RC4_40Bit.pdf
v4_RC4_40Bit.pdf
v5_RC4_128Bit.pdf

works not:
v6_RC4_40Bit.pdf
v6_RC4_128Bit.pdf
v7_AES_128Bit.pdf
v7_RC4_40Bit.pdf
v7_RC4_128Bit.pdf
v8_AES_128Bit.pdf
v8_RC4_40Bit.pdf
v8_RC4_128Bit.pdf

If I try to open acrobat pdf version v6 - v8 with iOS Mail, then I get this screen and the mail app freezes.

I use this seetings:

Passwords are 123 and 321 (user and master)

Hi Armin,

Thanks for the post - Please download and test with Adobe Reader on iOS 10. This appears to be an issue with the PDF reader you're using and, if this works correctly with Adobe Reader, then this would confirm it.

Thanks,

By the way,

it would be easier to understand how to save modified settings if the yellow save icon at the top has a tooltip oder better changed to a text button (save changes)

Hi Will,
We send real estate offers to end users. The challenge is not, that I can open the protected pdf, it must work for the end users, without to install extra apps from app store.

Hi ADeeg,

I understand, but this does not appear to be an issue with our software, but with the app that is being used to open the PDF. If there is no issue with our software, we cannot solve the problem. The best way to determine if this is the case, is to download and test using Adobe.

As I said previously, if it works in Adobe then you will need to contact the creator of the app you're using (Apple?) and request help from them.

Hi Armin,

That's really up to you. I'd suggest checking their website for suggested contact options.

Thanks,
