I'm currently trying to move away from the discontinued Viewer to the Editor.

In the Viewer there was an option to disable the 'x' button next to each tab (in General -> Documents Layout -> Multiple Documents -> Tabbed Documents -> Show Close Button for Each Tab).

I cannot find it in the Editor. Why has it been skipped / hidden?

I understand these buttons are needed for some - at least for touch screens. But for me this is just annoying - I am constantly closing documents by accident (same for the bookmarks / page previews...), so for now I am forced to stay with the Viewer.

Please add this option. Or am I missing something obvious?

Unfortunately, for the moment, there is no information about when this feature will be available in the Editor.

Our attention has been brought to this post, Apologies for the delay, This feature has been implemented in a recent build, if you update to the most recent, you should find the option now appears under preferences (Ctrl+K) > General > Tabs and Windows > Setup.

Thank you for the information, I'm already aware of this option and I really appreciate it (time has passed and in the meantime I even became a paying customer! ).

However - like I said earlier - it would be ideal to also add an option to remove 'x' from the tabs at the bottom left (Bookmarks, Thumbnails, etc.) - these are still there after selecting that option and this is equally annoying.

Indeed those should go too, There is another feature request in progress for those ones, but as the handling is a bit different (panes can have their own windows) we need to approach those as a separate case. I cannot guarantee any timeline, but it is something we are looking at
