ALT-key crashes Editor

After switching to "Full Screen Mode" and hitting the ALT-key (inadvertently) the Editor crashed and showing a message before closing.
Now restarting the Editor (I didn't reboot) and pressing the ALT-key instantly closes the Editor without any message.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour?

I restartet my system trying to reproduce the crash error message that might have given me a crash dump file - to no avail:
Editor just closes when hitting the ALT-key.
Before the first crash happened my system didn't have a "LocalDumps" - key in the registry.
Wouldn't it be useful if this key is automatically created during installation of Editor?

In my case, the editor just hangs when I press Alt key and
standard windows dialog "PDF-XChange Editor is not responding" appears after a few mouse clicks.

Same in my case, also changing textcontent is not possible: editing the text, clicking beside the box -> "Editor is not responding"
I deinstalled the 2018 and installed the last 2017 ....

I had the same problem with V7.0.324.0. When I did Alt-Tab to change to another program once or twice, Editor crashed reliably on 2 different PCs (both Win7 x64, both NOT in Fullscreen mode). There was no CrashDump in \[user]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps.

It seems the reason was importing the previously exported settings from V6 (in one case) and V7.0.323.2 (other PC) after updating. Actually I thought that would work now and keep the Icon customizations from V6, but it did not.

Solution was "Reset Settings" and doing all settings and customizations again. At least both machines are working ok now, fullscreen or not. BTW: Signatures (written, not digital) and their password were kept.

Regards
Chris

So far I have had no problems with the Alt key, either using it with KeyTips, or switching between programs using Alt Tab. I have had no problems with importing and exporting settings. This is with both Windows XP and Windows 7.

Based on the previous post, this might be because I re-did all customizations and settings when I switched to Version 7, as many Version 6 settings could not be imported.

Resetting the toolbar (which I customized) didn't help me but this time I was able to get a crashdump file.
I attached 2 files in case they are of any use.

Hello guys,

I have notified the appropriate developer about this and he will take a look at this problem when he gets at work on Monday (Canadian time). Also I would like to thank you about the detailed explanation and investigations on this matter and I hope this will help to solve this issue much faster.

Cheers,
Alex

It seems that I found something interesting: there is a limit on the number of buttons in the Title Bar.
With 17 buttons or less in the Title Bar no problem with Alt key.

Hi Ovg.
324.1 doesn't help. Look at my previous post.
The problem with hanging editor when you have big customized QuickAccess menu and pressing Alt key - that isn't fixed in 324.1 build. Sorry for inconvenience - we will fix it asap.

Cheers.

Very sorry OVG, I jumped the gun because I walked into the office this morning and heard about another crash caused by the alt key that was fixed overnight.
Saw the header and that it was from a few days ago initially and assumed it was regarding that issue.

In 324.2 an option has been added to disable KeyTips. That seems to work on disabling them on the Menu Bar. However on the Toolbars on the Title Bar (and possibly other Toolbars) it appears the KeyTips still work, but the black rectangles and numbers are no longer visible. Is that how it is supposed to be?

Hello Arnold,

Please clarify what exactly do you mean (screenshot with combination that you have used preferably). Maybe you've misplaced keytips with shortcuts (what I can presume from your post).

Cheers,
Alex

I cant give you a screenshot on this. Here is an example. If I have KeyTips enabled then Alt + 7 selects Combine Files on the Title Bar. If I then disable KeyTips, Alt + 7 still selects Combine Files, but no black rectangle with the number 7 appears.

I had thought that disabling KeyTips would mean that Alt + 7 would not longer select Combine Files.

Hi Andy,

Please see the attached image. That is from the latest build (324.2) and in Classic UI mode - if you are in ribbon - this checkbox is not active.
This option disables the black rectangles with the letters for each menu in Classic UI, but does not disable the Alt+ key combinations in general.

Stefan

Make sure to updat eto 324.2 (from last night), and to be in Classic UI - and it will be there.

Stefan
