I would like to report the following bugs regarding links and bookmarks:

For links:
1. When a sentence includes a line break, the link is not created.

2. Same thing if there is a hyphen at the end of the sentence and then a line break.

3. Finally, generally speaking, I noticed that link creation was random: sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.

For bookmarks:
1. When creating a bookmark, if the sentence ends with a hyphen and is followed by a line break, there is not an option (pre-processing) that would remove the hyphen of the bookmark.
This option would allow to choose whether or not to have a single-part bookmark (for example, "creation" or "crea-tion").

I have attached two PDF files showing these problems (I have highlighted the sentences in yellow).

Welcome to our forums and thanks for your post!

For your links issue - can you please tell us what the source of this document is and are you e.g. converting it from that source to PDF and you get some of your links lost?

Or are you trying to create new links directly inside the PDF file?
If the latter - can you please include some screenshots of the steps you make.

As for bookmarks - the hyphen is indeed part of the text selection you've done - so the proposed bookmark name would include that hyphen and you need to adjust it while setting the bookmarks itself.

I tried to create new links directly inside the PDF file.

As you can notice, when the sentence includes a line break, the link is not created.
On the other hand, when the sentence is on the "same line", then it works correctly.

In the options menu, I tried several scenarios with check boxes, unfortunately none of them work when there is a line break.

I have reproduced your issue and reported this to the Dev team. For the moment I am afraid that I do not have a workaround for you, but we do have a ticket in place for this:

RT#6762: Bug: Linebreak prevents "link from bookmark" creation.

While all tickets are internal only, you can ask us here, or send an email referring to the ticket number, to ask for a status update at any time.

In some cases, strangely, the links are not created at all, I'll send a screenshot showing the issue.

Regarding my previous post, sorry I made a mistake: I meant hyphenation of words (the typographical convention), a very common thing in many PDFs (especially in multi-column texts).

For instance in a text with the word "exceptionally", we might have these different hyphenations:
- excep-tionally
- ex-ceptionally
-exception-ally

PDF-XChange always keeps the original hyphenation of the word, even if you use "Search and Replace" to remove it, there are so many combinations that it's impossible to manage!

It would be very useful to have an option "Remove soft hyphens" in order to have a one-part bookmark ("exceptionally").

To be perfectly clear, I'll send a screenshot

If you mean to remove them inside of the original bookmark text, we do offer a function which could do that:

Oops, sorry for my late response.

Unfortunately the "Find and Replace" function does not solve the problem because it removes the hyphen which in certain words are necessary... (e.g horse-race, sign-off, mountain-climbing, etc, this kind of words are never split by a line break in a PDF text).

But for instance with the following sentence:

tyrrg etrgfs sdfsd consti-[line break]
tutional thgdg dgfgdf rdsg

Instead of "consti-tutional", in that case PDF-XChange should create a bookmark without the hyphen.

Hence the usefulness of having an option to remove it before creating the bookmark.

That seems a bit too much to ask. Perhaps you are getting into AI territory there.

Thank you for the patience. Using AI for that kind of task would be quite expensive, and likely not necessary. After speaking with the Dev team, we think that adding spellcheck functionality to the bookmark creation functions would accomplish this quite well.
I have created a second ticket for this item, as a feature request. I cannot promise implementation, but we will be looking into it further in time.

In fact for users, it is to have an option to remove hyphenating at line endings
I don't think there is a need for AI to do this!

Of course, there is always the Find and Replace tool in Bookmarks

I am afraid that it is just as much one to me at this point. The best I can say here is that these items have been logged in the tickets already made, including newer discoveries in my research, but I cannot promise when we will see resolution. For now, you will likely want to create these links manually.
