How do I use PDF-Tools to add page numbers to documents?

Answer:

1. Open PDF-Tools and click the Pages category.

2. Locate Add Header and Footer, then open the Add Header and Footer dropdown and click More Options..., under Tool Info.

The Add Header and Footer dialog box will open.

3. Click the Macro function Dropdown, and select Page Number:

The Selected Header/Footer Text dialog box will update with the default page number settings. Click Edit Page Numbering Style to determine date and numbering format options, or edit the dialog box manually.

4. When the desired parameters have been set click OK.

N.b. If the existing settings of the Add Header and Footer tool are required for other purposes, then the Clone feature can be used to create a clone that can be customized as desired. The Clone feature is detailed here.
