Question:

I used the MSI installer to install PDF-XChange Editor from the command line, but it does not display in web browsers. Why is this the case?

Answer:

Please note that the following switches must be specified in order to display PDF-XChange Editor in web browsers:

  • F_Viewer must be specified in order to install PDF-XChange Editor.
  • F_BrowserPlugins must be specified in order to install the browser plugins (MS Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome).
  • F_IEPlugin and/or F_NPPlugin must be specified in order to install the MS Internet Explorer and/or Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome plugins respectively.

The example below will install all browser plugins:

msiexec /i EditorV7.x64.msi /qb ADDLOCAL="F_Viewer,F_Plugins,F_BrowserPlugins,F_IEPlugin,F_NPPlugin"

Please note that if ADDLOCAL is not used then all available options are installed when installation takes place from the command line. However, if ADDLOCAL is used then only the components specified will be installed. Therefore, if PDF-XChange Editor was installed from the command line and does not subsequently display in web browsers, then it is possible that the browser plugins were not specified during installation. An adjusted reinstallation will confirm whether or not this is the cause of the issue.
