How do I uninstall or remove OCR language packs from PDF-XChange Editor and PDF-XChange Viewer?

Question:

How do I uninstall or remove OCR language packs from PDF-XChange Editor and PDF-XChange Viewer?

Answer:

Language packs are not installed in the standard manner. Instead, they are provided in .xcl files (PDF-XChange Editor) and .lng and .dat files (PDF-XChange Viewer) that are located by default in the folders detailed below. New languages for the OCR engine are available here.

V8 and later:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tracker Software\Common

V7 and earlier:

C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor\Languages

Viewer:

C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\ocrdats

The language files must be removed from these directories in order remove OCR language packs from PDF-XChange Editor or PDF-XChange Viewer.

PDF-XChange Editor uses language culture codes to define languages. A list of these codes is available here. The OCR langauge packs feature the prefix OCRPlugin.

Note that the location of OCR language packs for PDF-XChange Editor depends on the OCR setup that you are using. If you are using the default OCR then the language files will be located in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tracker Software\Common\Tesseract

If you are using the Enhanced OCR module then the language files will be located in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tracker Software\Common\LeadTools\OcrResources

PDF-XChange Viewer supports german, english, french and spanish by default. These languages are defined in the orcdats directory as deu, eng, fra and spa respectively. The OCR language packs feature the suffix pxvocr.dat. Additional language packs for our products are available here.
