Append to Existing PDF - Huh?
Hi there,
I am testing out PDF-XChange 4 and have an issue with the "Append to Existing PDF" function:
- all settings are default
- I print a two page PDF - all is good
- I go to print another document to PDF, since I want to add it to the end of the first:
- ctrl-p (Print dialog box comes up), I select the pages I want (from / to) and click OK
- PDF-XChange 4 spools it up as normal and the "Save As" dialog box comes up
- I navigate to the first PDF and click on it.
- I check off the "Append to Existing PDF" check box and click Save
- The resulting PDF will have my first (original) two pages (the ones I wanted at the top) at the bottom of the document.
***NEWS FLASH***
While stepping through this, I've noticed that if I don't check off "Append to Existing PDF" and just click save that a window appears that states "Specified file already exist. Please specify action what to do:" (<---Grammar?). I choose "Merge With Existing (Append To)" and it works as expected.
I'm thinking the checkbox should go and that drop down in the "Specified file already exist" window should be where the drop is. If the checkbox stays, then it's behavior should be changed to correctly behave like Merge With Existing (Append To)" in the drop down list.
Thanks much,
James

Re: Append to Existing PDF - Huh?
I'm seeing the exact same problem. There seems to be a problem appending to the end of the exisiting pdf.
It doesn't matter whether you have the "printing preferences>save > When file exists" value to:
Merge with Existing (Append to) or Merge with Existing (Insert before)
it always inserts before.
I'm a PDF-XChange 3 user and just upgraded. In 3, which is still installed, it works fine, 4 doesn't.
Please advise. Thanks!
