How do I change the default text used in the typewriter or text box tools?

Knowledge Base Article: KB140 - Created On: Aug 20, 2009 02:18 PM - Last Modified: Jun 30, 2010 07:22 AM

Problem:

I can't change the default text style in the Typewriter or Text Box Tools.

Cause:

Default text properties for objects is typically saved independently of other object properties.

Resolution:

To set the default text style on an object:

Note!

As of Version 2.0.0050.0 the currently selected style can be made the default with a single click of the new button"Make Default' that appears on the "Properties Toolbar [CTRL+E]" when your text is selected.

Make Default

1) Select the desired text to be changed.  Note that this typically requites selecting an object then double clicking inside that object to give the text focus, then using the mouse or keyboard to select the text you wish to modify.

text box text when selected

Some users have mentioned challenges in this step, citing difficulty selecting the text and have found it useful to zoom in on the object in question to make selecting the text inside easier.

2) Modify the text appearance using the context sensitive properties toolbar.

Properties Tool Bar with a text object selected

3) Once you have the text looking the way you want it, select that text again, then using the context menu [right click] select  Text Formatting>Set Current Text Formatting as Default.

Set the default Typewriter tool formatting

Note:

This setting is for the text style within an object.  To set the default style of an object's attributes other than it's text see this article:
